Beginning a new partnership with Ursulinenschule Hersel

Wilmington und Hersel

Einen ersten Eintrag bezüglich unseres USA-Austauschs finden Sie in dem vorliegenden >> Blog:

On Sunday, October 15th, we welcomed a delegation of 10 students and 3 chaperones from our sister school in Hersel, Germany to Ursuline Wilmington.  Ursulinenschule Hersel is a Catholic, all-girls school located about 20 minutes south of Cologne on the banks of the Rhine River.

Since their arrival, our German guests have been busy experiencing all that Wilmington and our surroundings have to offer.  On Monday, they arrived at school with their host sisters and were welcomed by the Middle and Upper School students with prayers in the gym.  Following our opening prayers, the delegation toured our campus and learned about Ursuline’s rich 124-year old history.  The students then shared lunch with their host sisters and then embarked on a tour of Wilmington with former Upper School Principal Carolyn Zogby ’69 and Athletic Director Susan Heiss, complete with a stop for ice cream along the riverfront!

On Tuesday, our new sisters had the opportunity to experience life as an Ursuline student by participating in classes and lessons throughout the school day.  That afternoon, they traveled to Hagley Museum to learn more about the deep history rooted here in Wilmington.  Wednesday was an early morning with a day-long trip to Washington, DC.  We were toured around the U.S. Capitol building by Senator Chris Coons’ office and spent the remainder of this gorgeous day walking through monuments along the National Mall and having fun in the Air & Space Museum.

The spirit of St. Angela and Serviam was ever-present on Thursday as our guests gave back to the Wilmington community through service at St. Patrick’s Center.  We packaged meals, organized the pantry, and handed out fresh produce to more than 75 members of the Wilmington community.

Stay tuned to our blog as we continue to share our experience with our new sisters from Germany!
